Course Overview

The Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife (ANM) course is a comprehensive diploma program that spans over 2 years, focusing on training individuals in essential nursing and midwifery skills. Students undergo both theoretical learning and practical training to develop proficiency in patient care, maternal and child healthcare, family planning, and community health services.

The curriculum includes classroom lectures, clinical rotations in diverse healthcare settings, and hands-on experience in various nursing procedures and midwifery practices.

Upon completion of the ANM course, graduates acquire skills in basic nursing care, maternal and child health services, communicable disease control, and emergency care.

ANM graduates can work in primary health centers, community health centers, district hospitals, NGOs, and private nursing homes as Auxiliary Nurses & Midwives, Health Workers, Maternal and Child Health Workers, or Family Welfare Assistants.

Admission Eligibility

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate (35% for SC/ST candidates).
  • The minimum age for admission is 17 years and the maximum age is 30 years as on 31st December of the year of admission.

Modules

The Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife (ANM) is a two‑year diploma program followed by a six‑month internship, designed to train students in basic nursing care and midwifery practice, especially for community health and maternal‑child care.

In the first year, students study Community Health Nursing, Health Promotion, Primary Healthcare Nursing, Child Health Nursing, and Midwifery Basics, which provide the foundation for preventive and promotive healthcare. The second year focuses on Midwifery and Obstetric Nursing, Community Health Nursing II, Health Center Management, and Practical Training in rural and urban healthcare settings. The final six‑month internship emphasizes hands‑on experience in hospitals, primary health centers (PHCs), and community health programs, ensuring that graduates are competent in maternal care, child health, family planning, and basic nursing services.
